Breast cancer develops when abnormal cells in the breast begin multiplying uncontrollably, often creating a lump or tumor. If left untreated, the cancer can spread to nearby tissue and other areas of the body. Although breast cancer is most frequently diagnosed in women, it can also occur in men. Detecting breast cancer early through routine screenings and evaluations can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
At Emerald Coast Cancer Center, conveniently located for individuals in Niceville, we provide experienced and compassionate breast cancer care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Our team uses advanced therapies and personalized treatment strategies to help guide patients from diagnosis through recovery. With a focus on supportive care, clear communication, and leading cancer treatments, we are committed to helping patients move forward with confidence throughout their breast cancer treatment journey.
Breast cancer is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women, and identifying it early can greatly improve the chances of successful treatment. Recognizing potential warning signs and seeking medical evaluation when changes occur are important steps in protecting your health. Certain symptoms of breast cancer may be more noticeable than others. Paying attention to changes in your body and discussing any concerns with your healthcare provider is essential. Possible signs of breast cancer may include:
If breast cancer is suspected, additional testing is typically recommended to gather more information and confirm a diagnosis. This evaluation may include a clinical breast exam, diagnostic mammogram, breast ultrasound, and in some cases, an MRI. When an abnormal area is identified during screening, a biopsy is often performed to collect a small tissue sample for further examination.
At Emerald Coast Cancer Center, located a short drive from Niceville, we guide patients through every stage of the diagnostic process with compassion and clarity. Our team understands that waiting for answers can feel overwhelming, which is why we focus on providing thorough explanations, attentive support, and experienced care throughout your breast cancer evaluation.
Breast cancer treatment is highly individualized and based on several factors, including the cancer type, stage, tumor characteristics, overall health, and personal treatment goals. At Emerald Coast Cancer Center, we develop customized treatment plans designed to address the unique medical and emotional needs of every patient.
For individuals in Niceville seeking breast cancer care, treatment may include one or a combination of the following therapies:
Chemotherapy: Uses specialized medications to destroy cancer cells or slow their growth. It may be recommended before surgery, after surgery, or as part of treatment for advanced breast cancer.
Immunotherapy: Encourages the body’s immune system to better identify and attack cancer cells.
Targeted Therapy: Focuses on specific proteins or genetic changes that help cancer cells grow and spread, often with fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy.
Hormone Therapy: Commonly used for hormone sensitive breast cancers by blocking or lowering hormones such as estrogen or progesterone that fuel cancer growth.
Side effects during treatment can vary from person to person and may include fatigue, nausea, appetite changes, or other physical symptoms. Our care team closely monitors each patient throughout treatment and provides supportive care to help manage side effects and maintain comfort whenever possible.
At Emerald Coast Cancer Center, we are dedicated to delivering breast cancer care with compassion, experience, and a personalized approach that keeps your needs and goals at the center of every treatment decision.

I recently switched oncologists and she has gone above and beyond all expectations we had. She’s incredibly kind, compassionate, and so informative. I feel like I’m in the best hands under her care and am so grateful for her!Posted on Jazlyn MargrafTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been going here for few years now, Dr. Henderson and his team are amazinggggg. I was so nervous at first switching doctors but they made me feel comfortable. The only complaint I have is the African American lady doing scheduling off to the side. She always has an attitude and never seems like she wants to be there. I already had cancer and have to come to the appointments for cancer check ups, the last thing I want to deal with is a lady with an attitude when I’m trying to schedule my next appointment.Posted on JudyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We can’t begin to say enough wonderful things about Dr Henry Hsiang. He is a brilliant clinical physician plus has compassion and empathy. We have spoken with Dr Hsiang and Dr. Henderson after hours and both have been so kind. Throughout the chemo treatments, staff has been friendly, compassionate, and professional. This cancer center is an amazing resource for the Fort Walton Beach area. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.Posted on karoline dempseyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dr King and her team (PA Courtney and Nurse Ally) are a shining light in a dismal journey. Highest ratings for professional treatment and personal care. So competent they suggested we get into MD Anderson for future medicine trial consideration. First thing MDACC did was validate that ECCC & Dr King were on the correct path and praised their care. What better bonafides are needed?Posted on Glenice CooksonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been going to the Emerald Coast Cancer Center for over 4 years. Everyone there is fantastic. They are very thorough and caring. I highly recommend them to everyone.Posted on Lindsey StewartTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband is battling colon cancer and I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. King and the staff at ECCC. Dr King makes us so comfortable discussing such a difficult thing. She treats us like family and I have the most love and respect for her. She truly is the best in our eyes. Allison, Dr King’s nurse makes it a high priority to make sure that husband has the best experience every single time he’s seen. Between Allison and his chemo nurses, Lita, Beth, and Leslie…just to name a few…these ladies are literally angels on earth. Let’s face it, no one wants to have to be in an oncology office, but they all bring such sunshine into our lives at such a dark time. We love you all! Thank you all for caring for my husband the way you do 💙💙Posted on Joy AdkissonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everyone has always been kind and respectful to me. They're helpful in anyway they can be. Patient with me and any of my questions. Dr. Melissa King is my doctor. What can I say about her?...I just love her so much! She's the best! She cares deeply and always makes me feel at ease. Thanks to you all!! I left Sacred Heart to come over here . They take very good care, listen, and make you feel like an individual....not a number or protocol. They are also willing to work with other doctors and facilities if you want another opinion.Posted on Amy MorfesiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. No one wants to have to write a review on a cancer center, let's face it, it's not a place we ever want to go to. But in August of 2023 I had my 1st appointment with Dr. King. I think it's mandatory that all oncologists have to be slightly pessimistic giving the worst case scenarios, even though I had to hear all the what if's, I also felt incredibly cared for by my new doctor. She was real and kind and very patient as my husband and I had alot of questions. She assured us she would be in the fight with us and if at any time we needed more then she could provide, she would recommend us to the mayo clinic or another cancer center with more medical opinions for care. The atmosphere felt like walking into my grandparents home, not fancy, but felt like a hug, and that's fitting, because from day 1 of my treatments the staff and nurses were amazing. They were some of the kindest ladies I have ever met. Gentle and knowledgeable. I'm a talker and a hugger and they were both as well. I had some scarey moments in the beginning of my treatments, and with them helping me I felt strong and well cared for. I watched as they secretly gave food to patients that were hungry and needed food for strength after chemo, they talked to all of us like we were just regular people, not cancer patients. We laughted, shared stories, danced and connected together. They made chemo days less scarey. I highly recommend Emerald Coast Cancer Center. Their doctors, nurses and staff are the best. Amy Douglas
